Cycling in Paris

With the constant efforts to reduce carbon emissions, Paris has seen an increase in bicycle use. In fact, streets such as Rue de Rivoli or Avenue des Champs-Elysees have seen changes in landscape like the biker lanes replacing the car traffic lines showing a major change in the city of lights called Paris.


On the first Sundays of each month, Paris is car-free meaning that several sectors are closed to traffic, as well as areas where cars are banned altogether such as the Champs-Élysée Avenue.


Different options :


- If you have your own bike, just know that bike theft in Paris is a problem, so it’s important to have a secure lock.


- Paris Bike Tour : Electric and standard bikes available

Paris Bike tour offers the opportunity to take beautiful guided walks. For tourists in a group or individually, the tourist agency provides bikes and experienced guides for the tour. Available for Day and night tours, the agency is located in Le Marais neighborhood.

There are other travel agency offering bike tours in Paris such as Veloscenie, Paris by Bike and Fat tire tours.


Renting a bike :


People in Paris usually rent bikes through Velib. Velib Paris is the most popular public-bike share system in the city. Providing self-service mechanical and electric bikes for short term rentals, Velib is available every day and every time having more than 1,800 Velib Stations spaced every 300 meters across Paris.


It is important to know that the use of Velib is not allowed to people aged 14 and below.

The Velib mobile app can be downloaded on App Store (iPhone), Google Play (Android) and Windows Phone, and is also accessible with Samsung Gear S2 smartwatches.

However, It is not possible to book bikes for your next trip, the app only allows you to locate them..


The tickets :


V-Decouverte : A short time ticket allowing unlimited trajectories during a whole day. Green bikes (mechanical) offer you 30 minutes free, blue bikes (electrical) offer the first 30minutes at 1 euro.

Price : 5 euros + extra amount for every 30 minutes passed beside the one offered ( 1 euro for Green bikes and 2 euros for Blue bikes)


V-Sejour : A ticket allowing unlimited trajectories during 7 days. Green bikes (mechanical) offer you 30 minutes free, blue bikes (electrical) offer the first 30minutes at a cheaper amount.

Price : 15 euros + extra amount for every 30 minutes passed beside the one offered ( 1 euro for Green bikes and 2 euros for Blue bikes)


For family, friends, or group trips, both of these formulas allow renting up to 5 bikes at the same time.
