Owned by Pierre Cardin since 1981, the Musee Maxim’s locates a restaurant and a Museum. Inspired by La Belle Epoque and l’Art Nouveau, the three floors monument is a reconstruction of the apartment of a concubine who used to receive the visit of beautiful people (kings, princes, dukes, ministers) in her luxurious Parisian apartment. With masterpieces from big names such as Tiffany, Majorelle, Massier, or Galle, the Museum is classed as a historical monument.
Originally a hotel restaurant, the place gained popularity around 1900. For the Universal exposition occasion, the place has been rearranged by Louis Marnez and trendy artists from l'Ecole de Nancy, changes that attracted the entire elite of French gallantry, crowned heads, and great fortunes. Since the rearrangement, many artists such as Jean Cocteau or Marcel Proust have helped to establish the reputation of Maxim’s.
During the German Occupation, the place was requisitioned and run by a Berlin restaurateur, it became the privileged restaurant of German officers. In the 1950s and 70s, the Musee Maxim’s became the most famous restaurant in the world, but also one of the most expensive with an international reputation.
With 5 collections and more than 550 pieces from all over the world signed by the most prestigious designers, the Museum displays a unique collection of furniture and objects collected by Pierre Cardin for more than sixty years. The 12 room apartment is furnished with the most beautiful creations of the 1900s.

The Art Nouveau or Modern Style is an artistic movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Based on the aesthetics of the curved lines, it is a mixture of Baroque and Japanese influence.
